Deborah Digges (1950-2009)

Deborah Digges grew up on an apple orchard in Missouri. Prior to earning her M.F.A. at the Iowa Writers Workshop, she studied at the University of California and earned an M.A. in English at the University of Missouri. She wrote four books of poetry and two memoirs. Her first book, Vesper Shadows (1986), which has been reissued by Carnegie Mellon Press, won the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Prize from New York University. Her latest collection, Trapeze, appeared in 2005. She received many grants and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, among other organizations.
