Andrew Marvell (1621-1678)
Today Andrew Marvell (1621-1678) is best known for his carpe diem poem “To His Coy Mistress.” His wit and humor make this English metaphysical poet’s work memorable. Marvell was also a talented statesman and worked as an assistant to John Milton when Milton was Oliver Cromwell’s Latin secretary for foreign affairs.
